"Peter’s particularly strong at recognizing new media opportunities for old media companies. He's done extensive work with the newspaper and yellow pages industries, and is exceptionally well connected. When I want the real scoop, or get an intro to the players, I call Peter. He's my sounding board when I need a fresh perspective."

It was fun teaming with Dick Larkin’s Small Business Commando to help launch Dick’s series on local marketing techniques. Buy recordings of the series here.

The Media Giraffe ProjectIn Summer 2006, we joined with The Boston Globe, Omidyar Network  and others in The Media Giraffe Project, a  community journalism summit at UMass Amherst. We ran a panel on  the sustainability of community journalism. Here are some relevant posts from the conference.

“Community Sites generally benefit from reaching out to their audiences. But to do so requires a clear message, organized content, and interaction. A lot of publishers don’t want to do it.”

"This might be the right model for ‘coopetition.’ However, the newspaper firms involved in the deal will have to prove they can work together if the Yahoo relationship is to succeed. Paper publishers, with storied histories of regional rivalries, have yet to demonstrate they can collaborate on a broad level."
